Journalism fellowships give you experiences you may not get anywhere else and help you improve your storytelling. Many are available now, BUT the application deadlines are approaching. As part of my #CallingAllJournalists Initiative, I am offering this list of fellowships to help you find a new experience for 2024.
Many of you may say, “I can’t make the deadline.” A good journalist does not let a deadline stop them. Don’t let one that is coming up soon scare you from applying. Go for it. Good luck!
The Art of Journalism initiative, MacDowell is investing $2 million in Fellowships for journalists and long-form non-fiction authors, as well as providing journalism project grants, while helping to link a new network of publishers, non-profit newsrooms, and other key players in the journalism community to MacDowell’s artist community. The deadline to apply is February 10, 2024.
The Chronicle of Philanthropy is accepting applications for their Philanthropy & Nonprofit Accountability Fellowship ($30K) through January 8, 2023 – pairs editor + journalist and there’s a preference for local and regional newsrooms.
2024 Annual Science Immersion Workshop for Journalists. This year, the workshop specializes in water issues and climate change. Fellows will dive deep into issues such as water quality, plastics and public health, and ecosystem restoration, all through a social justice lens. The deadline for this workshop is February 12, 2024.
The Matthew Power Literary Reporting Award is a grant of $12,500 to support the work of a promising early-career nonfiction writer on a story that uncovers truths about the human condition. The deadline is February 22, 2024.
Emerson Coleman Fellowship. The deadline to apply is January 31, 2024.
Knight Wallace Fellowships. The deadline for US journalists to apply is Feb. 1, 2024.
Reuters Institute offers journalism fellowships at Oxford [Worldwide]. The deadline to apply is February 19, 2024.
Higher Ed Media Fellowship. The deadline to apply is Feb. 15, 2024.
Neiman Fellowships. The deadline for US journalists to apply is January 31, 2024.
Knight Science Journalism Fellowships. The deadline to apply is January 15, 2024.
Knight-Wallace Arts Journalism Fellowship. The deadline to apply is February 1, 2024.
Marquette University O’Brien Fellowship. The deadline to apply is January 15, 2024.
Ted Scripps Fellowships in Environmental Journalism. The deadline to apply is March 1, 2024.
Richard Longworth Media Fellowships. The deadline to apply is February 1, 2024.
