Journalism Job Openings: The March List

Before you look at all the jobs I’ve added to this March list, here are a few things that could help you find a “new happy place”:

  1. Make sure you update your LinkedIn. Many managers are going to LinkedIn to find their next employee. List the jobs you have done, not just where you worked.
  2. Contact all your contacts in the news business and tell them you are looking for a job. How can I put together this list of jobs? I contacted my extensive network, and they reached out to their network.
  3. Attend local conferences and not only in journalism. There could be a job contact in the crowd or on a panel. There are plenty of free Zoom panels that you can take part in. Put yourself out there.
  4. Do not beat yourself up if you don’t find a new job immediately. Take a class, find a side hustle, and do something for you. Now you have the time.

I know it can be depressing, but push through. I speak from experience as someone who has been laid off and fired and has seen a job disappear.

My job list is part of my #CallingAllJournalists Initiative. Remember that hashtag because I use it to list new jobs I share on social media. Thanks again to all of you who contribute to my list.

If you are reading this right now, I want you to find a job you are not interested in and share it with me so I can add it to this list. Find me via LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter. I update this list at least once a month. Also, subscribe if you want that update. Check back. And check my February list because there are still openings from that list.

WE SUCCEED TOGETHER

As you search for your new job, be open to change. Not all job opportunities are big media news outlets, but local news is king, and there is more stability in most cases in local news. Also, if you have the experience and know-how, think of starting your nonprofit or newsletter, especially if you want to move closer to family where a news desert exists.

Please let me know if you get a job from one of my posts. Good luck!

Until next time,
Rebecca Aguilar
